Asking honest questions can provide valuable insights into how your business is running, where improvements may be needed, and can lead to the solutions of powerful growth through executive coaching. Here's a list of questions to consider using a subset of the Gravitas 7 Attributes of Business self assessment questionnaire:

  • If you had to identify one or two factors that destroy margin in your business, what would you pick?
  • Does everyone on your team know the margin goals and have a clear understanding on what they can do to contribute?

STRATEGY

  •  Can you state your strategy in one sentence?
  •  What % of your revenue comes from customers that you LOVE to work with?
  •  If I quizzed 10 of your employees were while they were walking out the front door for lunch, would there be consistent answers in regards to the company’s strategy, top priorities, ideal customers?  Or maybe I would hear a lot of different answers?

  •  Does your business generate enough cash to support your personal goals?
  •  When you look at your business financial statement, which two or three numbers do you watch most closely?
  •  What would you do if you had an extra $1 million dollars to invest in your business?  (Or whatever number is appropriate.)

TALENT

  •  Would you enthusiastically re-hire every member on your current team?
  •  Do you have the right people on your team to accomplish your goals for the business?
  •  When there is a problem, how do you find out about it?  Who tells you?

CUSTOMER

  •  Can you tell us about your Dream Customer - what type of opportunity gets your team excited?
  •  How many of those customers do you have?
  •  Is your marketing strategy aligned with acquiring those Dream Customers?

SYSTEMS

  •  When your company gets busy, does the level of DRAMA increase?
  •  When you look at the various systems in your organization - from software subscriptions, hardware decisions, phones, on-boarding new employees, billing customers, tracking inventory…would you categorize your decision process on all these elements as ‘intentional” over time?
  •  If you could “do it over”, what decisions would you change?  And is there anyone in the organization who keeps an eye on the systems?

LEADERSHIP

  •  As you look at your leadership team, how aligned is everyone with your values?  Any gaps?  Are the values written down anywhere?
  •  Have you clearly stated the roles of the leaders across the various workflows?  Would everyone agree with your description?
  •  Is there anyone on your team who has stopped learning and growing?  When did they stop?  Why did they stop?
  •  Does your culture naturally attract A level talent?
